Bah! Humbug!
Was Scrooge right? Whatever religious meaning might originally have been intended for Christmas it certainly seems to have got lost. Do you take the religious message seriously?

It starts way too early, is too commercial and quite frankly has lost the plot! Folks get into debt for the rest of the year and there is simply no need, what I used to get as a main present when I was a child would merely be a stocking filler now - ridiculous.
Christmas means different things to different people (even as a kid it wasn't a religious event in my family or amongst my friends) I'm of the non-religious, over indulge the kids (without the debt) variety of Christmas celebrator but I don't knock those that celebrate the religious aspect of Christmas. Each to their own.
The Christians stole the festival of Saturnalia from the Pagans, they re-branded it as Christmas, they hoped by allowing the Pagans to still feast and make merry that they would be able to convert them, it worked very well. If Jesus existed then he was not born on December the 25 th, there is no mention of his birth date in the bible but scholars think it more likely he was born in the summer time.
This says it all.
Last year I went into a local card shop looking for a card depicting the true meaning of Christmas for a rather devout friend.
The shop assistant pointed me towards a section of the display and said
"I think we have one religious card. You will find it next to the 'from my cat to your cat at Christmas' selection."

Many different thoughts about Christmas here. I'm not a religious person because I simply don't know what to believe. Wish I did. Creation is a mystery I would like to understand, but I will not invent a reason. One doesn't have to look far to see that different religions are the cause of many of the world's wars and other problems.
