My father used to collect 'modern used' British postage stamps. (It's all to do with looking for colour variations, minor printing errors, misplaced phosphor bands, etc). He'd buy bags of 'kiloware' from charity shops, collected by people like Jenny Thomas.

While 'commemorative' stamps (such as those issued for Christmas each year) might be of the greatest interest to such collectors, the ordinary 'definitive' stamps can also yield treasure for them, so they can certainly be included within 'kiloware'.

Until a few years ago we always saved all our stamps on mail received at work and gave them to some lady who then sent them to charity. Just wondering if this is limited to Christmas stamps from Christmas cards? Oh and someone send Talbot a card please.

I send bundles of stamps to her all year round. Any stamps will do. I don't know about foreign currency.I presume she accepts 'paper' currency sent in an envelope.

Thanks for the other links, Chris. Sending the used stamps to any of those charities is far better than putting them in the bin.
