I usually wait until the week before Xmas, to put my tree and decorations up.

But this year I plan to put them up a week today...ie the 1st of December, and am now looking forward to that like an excited school boy !

I live alone and I am now of the opinion that you have to make an extra effort at this time of year, otherwise what is special about Yuletide ?

I've got four very good reasons why there's no point in putting up decorations in my house. (They're called Tablo, Moonbeam, Biscuit and Chequers). This gives you an idea of the type of thing I'm thinking of ;-)

Best ignored Mamy. I am not going to let one ignorant comment to spoil what was a happy and nostalgic thread.
Charming!
It feels like I've only just taken last years down. "She who must be obeyed" has one tiny rule. No Christmas decorations until after her birthday on the 10th Dec. So I give her a trip up to the loft for her day out.... believe it or not she loves it up there. :))
Nice one Togo.

Not that I'm competitive but last year I had 400 lights on my tree.
I know exactly what you mean, mikey......fond memories of Christmas's past, with our kids and with my Mum and Dad and family also....opening our presents really early in the morning and being so happy with Ker Plunk, Action Man, Crossfire, Arnold Palmer's Pro Shot Golf, and Barbie, Sindy or a dollshouse for our sisters.
Now it's all designer clothes or shoes, PS4 or XBox one gear, or iPhones, Laptops, Tablets, TV's etc.....

Roll back the years, mikey and get a time tunnel device, and I'll comeback with you and do it all over again :-)
Gets on your Wicca, doesn't it?
Great post, Togo.....lol

Yogi....I recall the year I was 12. We had a soldier cousin staying, who had served in Aden. He took my brothers and I down to the small toy shop in our Somerset town and bought us a Scalextric for Xmas !

This cost nearly £10 and it was probably the best present we had ever received !
//Now it's all designer clothes or shoes, PS4 or XBox one gear, or iPhones, Laptops, Tablets, TV's etc.....//

With you there Yogi, I remember telling my son when he was about 8yrs old that we only got an apple and an orange.. Wooow he said a computer and a mobile phone.
I tend to put up a few decorations out once the Chritmas cards start to build up. They are on the same box as the string and pegs. Later on I pick or buy some winter foliage, sometimes as late as Christmas Eve and create a big vase of Christmas!

Mamy's Christmas Tree.
Now your talking, mikey....loved my Scalextric set so much and I got mine at about that age too.

I remember also getting Meccano set and Tracy Island, small western figures from The High Chaparral, Spindrift spaceship from The Land Of The Giants, the Seaview sub, which was massive, from Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea! Great memories.
no effin' way. Today is Thanksgiving, tomorrow is the day of Feminine Capitalism - allow for the w/end and set-up, the stores then can go into Christmas mode - but let's allow for the traditional cycle of Advent/Christmas/Epiphany - too many people pull the Christmas trigger and, correspondingly, take the decs down too early - 12 nights = Jan 6th.
Hope you’re not on your own over Christmas mikey, Christmas is the time to have friends and family around you
That's the one Togo.

No Bertrum, and thanks for asking. I go to my brothers on Xmas Day where I get the full works...Roast Turkey, with roast parsnips ( even though I am the only one who likes them ! )

Proper Xmas Pud and custard, and a huge Stilton !

Looking forward to it as I type !

Yogi....you mentioned the "Spindrift" from "Land of the Giants" earlier this evening.

Did you know that the complete series are being shown on Horror Channel at the moment, although they are nearly at the end of the transmissions now ?

Pure nostalgia !
Mikey,

First of all, I am really happy you are not alone at Christmas, and sounds brilliant to enjoy yourself at your brothers on Christmas Day. :-)

Land Of The Giants:--No way!....on Horror Channel too.....checked TV guide and on at Midday and again at 8:00pm....it is pure nostalgia and used to love it as a child.

I'm a big fan of Irwin Allen stuff and have ALL his TV series on DVD including the two series of LOTG, all four series of Voyage to the bottom of the sea , All 30 episodes of The Time Tunnel and all three series of Lost in Space. Pride of place in my DVD collection which also includes The Prisoner, Minder, Only Fools, and Thunderbirds.

Wonderful Yogi !
I remember buying the kids a scalextric, I played with it twice ... they didn't!
Don't do anything until after 14th December(daughter's birthday). Then it is a mad gallop!
