Xmas Decorations Up Yet ?

I usually wait until the week before Xmas, to put my tree and decorations up.

But this year I plan to put them up a week today...ie the 1st of December, and am now looking forward to that like an excited school boy !

I live alone and I am now of the opinion that you have to make an extra effort at this time of year, otherwise what is special about Yuletide ?

My mums birthday is the 23rd, she always got joint presents. I told her to pick a different date for us to celebrate, preferably in the summer. She never did though.

Aww murray! I'm told when I was a kid, my birthday was completely forgotten about it being in the month of December also, easy done for a busy mum and dad. I have no recollection.

Oh...to answer the question, I don't put up decorations. I used to when the kids were little but not anymore. I do like the season though and spending time with family.

I put my tree up the 8th of December and take it down the 6th of January, today is the first day of advent and I have my advent candle lighting as I type here :) as for Christmas birthdays, until about 6 years before my Mam passed away, we always celebrated her birthday on the 23 December, when she hit her 70s, she told us it was actually ¼ way through the year, she just didn't want us wasting our money on her twice a year. I am looking forward to putting my tree up though, as good as it is, my neighbours will be lit up like a landing strip in Cork Airport.

I couldn't wait any longer, so my decorations went up yesterday morning !

I quick trip over to "Buyology" and £20 well spent.... 2 LED trees, plus a couple of other dingle-dangles. And very nice they look !

I find them untidy. They look nice the day they go up and then they start bothering me.

We spent a fortune remodelling and decorating 'Chez Baldric' at the start of the year, so not going to start sticking drawing pins or sticky tape all over it now. There will be a large Tree in Dining Room window at front of house and cards will be strung between discrete permanently placed screws.
There are three adults in the house, we can enjoy Christmas without tinsel and paper chains.

Ummm...I sort-of agree, which is why I limit myself to the two LED trees.

These are not the ones that use fibre-optics, but look like a small, 1 foot high tree, with different coloured LED stars on the ends. You can bend the arms into different shapes.

I have been trying to find one like it on the 'net, to post a picture, but haven't been successful yet. They are very neat and sit comfortably on a window sill.

My mum has small ceramic trees, they look really cute.

Yes it would be wonderful to roll back the years and go back to those times again.Also this year will be different for Mrs. Grump and I as our son will not be sharing Christmas with us.He now lives in the U.S and will spend Christmas with his fiancee and her family.Hopefully we can still enjoy the forthcoming season just the same.

Our sons are spending Christmas with their other halves families this year too Grumpy, we're treating it as an opportunity to have a very self indulgent time, eating and drinking exactly what we want. We're all getting together for new year though, with the wider family, at a ski resort in Sweden. I don't ski!

I`m not putting any decorations up this year. The most I am going to do is burn a chrstmas candle. That suits me fine.

When I was really young, I remember that our christmas tree lights were made of glass and they were comprised of fruits and lanterns. The electrics comprised of two wires and they plugged into the ceiling light fittings. Does anyone remember that?

I am not religious, but like to have fairy lights around my big mirror in Winter.
They go up on the weekend of the clocks going back at the end of October, and they will come down in March when the clocks go forward.
I also have a mobile of glass baubles, that are up all year.

When we were younger and had young kids, the Christmas tree went up on Christmas eve and our Christmas meal was on Christmas eve evening. The decorations came down on 12 th night as per tradition. Nowadays, a few candles and Holly wreaths and our little artificial tree and the family heirloom Santa will come out on Christmas eve and put away on 12th night.
