fake - I dont like real trees cut down
Neither do I. That's why I buy a pot grown one.
I know the cruelty thing might get raised but these trees are a crop, they are sown (and replaced) specifically for this purpose, plus they have several years of a good life growing - real trees commercially bought are not from some deforested once wild area.
We have always had artificial ones, my current one is nice and quite realistic - I thought I would struggle to put itup this year with my weakened arm but help was at hand.
Looks lovely.
Have a lovely large, realistic, fake tree up in the loft but no way to get it down this year. Bought a smaller fibre optic one and I'm very happy with it.
You taking the mick Prudie, cruelty...?
Difficult question. Normally I'd prefer the real thing; but that doesn't explain the fake one I've had stored in the loft for a few decades. I ought to use it one year, if I can find space to put it. Meantime, Xmases come and Xmases go; no tree to be seen.
Tilly you must have a big pot as the tap root is two thirds the height of tree. Lots of lady bugs & insects winter in trees, that will infest indoors.
Tambo, don't tell me that!
She's needling you Tills....
Fake, I don't like real trees being chopped down.
Moth larvae soon hatch & adore mohair ;)
Tambo pot grown isn't the same as dug up and potted. In pot grown trees the tap root curls round inside the pot and it grows quite happily provided it is kept cool and well watered. Trees that are dug up and potted have very little chance of survival although they may be easier to keep watered while they are in the house A pot grown tree will need potting on as it grows but will be fine for many years. I have tried Nordmann trees but find that they shed too but I do keep my house warm.
Who knows what word those who don't like real Xmas trees cut down would use shoota? I just picked a mildly facetious one and it's obvious I'm not of the same opinion.
There was an article in the DT the other day that tomatoes exhibit distress when they are picked...so why not trees?

I prefer a real tree...with roots on, then I think I live in a forest at times - got to get the chainsaw going for some logging this weekend. This year, it's a hygge tree - which has been up all year.
The rest of Christmas is fake, so you may as well have a fake tree.
PS Christmas trees are a crop like wheat or apples. If they weren't grown, something else would be grown and harvested and like any other crop, anything unsold will be removed for the next crop to be planted.
We have a real tree, so I might shout abuse at it, and hurt its feelings.
For anyone who finds a lack of space an issue, I would recommend a small conifer, as the centre piece of a table decoration.
Chameacyparis thyoides is a good choice and looks just like a compact, miniature xmas tree. It can be grown on in successive pots or planted out in the garden after the festivities are over.

Pot-grown and potted are two different things, the latter dug up and bunged in a pot, possibly hours later.
I've had a small pot-grown for several years now!
Those who don't like real trees because they have to be chopped down I assume don't use paper for the same reason and also don#t use matches or wooden cutlery etc..

What a virtue.
