It has lost all it's meaning. I bet there are a lot of children who have now idea of the true meaning. All that happens is families all over the country are blackmailed and bribed into spending money on ridiculous overpriced gifts they cannot really afford, so end up going into debt so as not to appear miserable or 'tight'. A small gift as a gesture is all that's needed, especially if money is tight, instead of this rampant commercial bullying. I will be glad when it's over.

I love Christmas ...
I used to feel like you dave50, but I thought to myself: why should I let the retail chains etc. ruin it for me? I'll try my best to ignore them. One of the main reasons for the Christmas festivities are to bring a little jollity and light into the darkest time of the year so to deny ourselves even a mild form of celebration seems a shame just because some people go over the top, either through self-indulgence or trying to blackmail us out of our money.
No dave you are not, I will also be glad when its over, was thinking of flying out to somewhere warm, and returning in the new year maybe an idea for next christmas, we dont spend a lot of money on it in our household we do a secret santa spend no more than £40 on whoever you have to buy for which saves everyone a bob or two and as for christmas dinner I treat that as a glorified sunday lunch.
yep, you are the only person in the whole wide world who doesn't like christmas...
sums this thread up
I HATE Christmas & have done for years. It`s got nothing to do with losing someone close or religion. I get strange looks when I say no I don`t bother when asked "Are you ready for Xmas". The only good thing about it is my hubby will get 4 days off this work this year.
I just ignore the run up to it except for buying a few gifts for close family and a few cards for elderly relatives that don't live near. We then have a pleasant Christmas at home with a nice Roast Beef Dinner and wine and exchange gifts. End of. No trimmings, no fuss, no overeating.

We obviously made something more of it when our son was a child - but even then didn't spend loads of money or go overboard.

I look forward to January and the first aconites and snowdrops - they give me far more pleasure than Christmas.
LOL at Beejaybee. The number of times I have been asked whether I am ready for Christmas..........................
You must go to the hairdressers a lot LL
xmas=4 days off work and that's it!
LOL carrust. No, only for a five weekly snip!! I go to the supermarket a lot though and that seems to be the current topic of conversation at the check out. If I hear any more Christmas music in Morrisons I shall throw a wobbly.

And who needs giant tins of Quality Street, biscuits or Cadbury's Roses!!!!!
No fuss, no bother here. Glad when it is all over and the crowds and panic buying over in the supermarket. I fully agree with LL concerning the snowdrops and aconites.
I look on it as a mid-winter festival, when I can see my kids & spend some 'quality' time with them. I wonder if they see it like that?
I can stand it to a certain extent but what annoys me is when people spend alot of money thinking the shops will be shut for a week when in actual fact its only a day at most so why go mad buying food.
Im not big on christmas personally.
It has no importance for me at all, other than loss of earnings...
yup, it's all bah humbug to me too. Hate it.
Here's another cheery post started by dave, who then doesn't bother to come back. First it was old people living too long, now it's people enjoying themselves. He sounds a right barrel of laughs at the moment.... and he doesn't come back.
The true meaning of Christmas - is that it's mid-winter

We're half way through it! - every day we'll be getting a bit more light instead of a little less!

Yes it's out a few days with Calendar days and all that but before the Christians came and stole it there was still feasting and celebrations going back further than anybody can remember.

I can't think of a better excuse for a party
I work for a local homeless charity, and I'll be cooking for our clients on Christmas Day. That is what I am looking forward to,as it's what the day *should* be about.
Since I've been on my own Christmas is not a big deal...what makes me dislike it is the unrelenting advertising, and hard sell. But it's not forever thankfully.
But-I am looking forward to it a bit more,as last year my daughter was in Australia at this time.
