Dont you find it sickly when everyone links arms and sings 'Auld Lang Syne' (what ever that means) and 'You'll never walk alone' (scousers think it's their song) at the end of the night? Makes me want to vomit. Then afterwards have to wait hours for an over priced taxi to be able to get home.

Yes I hate new year too, always have....if you hate going out at new year so much though, why do you go?
i can see why your friends are not many.
Wow!

I'm glad I'll be wherever you aren't, this festive season, Dave.
you're a little ray of sunshine today aint ya dave? Second whinge i've seen from you in less than an hour!

And no, I love it- sorry.
You should try working behind the bar on NYeve, it is a bloody nightmare and you hardly get time to catch your breath, let alone have a proper break. You almost need to take up marathon training to prepare for it. lol

You could always stay in and service your atmosphere hoover Dave.
i used to like working the bar NYE bu you did have to work up to it, its a mental night. i don;t go out so much more, mainly cos i like chilling at home in the warmth but i like the midnight snogging so i might pop out this year :-)

No, love it.

New Years Eve is when all my very closest friends get together and we do all those songs. You need to get organised, we hire minibus or two well in advance.
I agree with you dave. I enjoy New year's Eve, so long as I'm at home with family and a quiet drink. I've always been baffled by the idea of celebrating the start of a New Year, particularly in cold, cramped surroundings or in a pub which has conned you into buying a ticket for the privilege weeks earlier.
I'm not keen on New Years Eve either .... It kind of spooks me thinking what might happen in the coming year. I much prefer the magic of Christmas Eve.
I've never seen anyone singing You'll Never Walk Alone at New Year! I used to always work NY, the last couple of years just done little things with the lass, this year I'm up thE rugby club, 10 mins walk from mine so all good!
There's abs no reason to dislike NYE. If you don't like how folk behave on the last night of the year stop in, do your own thing. I for one, never go 'out' on NYE, I always go for a nice meal with my OH and either a few drinks back at home or the home of a friend - nothing wild ever (well not in the last 15yrs!) - it's like Xmas, if you don't like all the faff about it - do your own thing - the hols are there for all to enjoy in the manner they would most enjoy - either by living it up or down. Stop being miserable and at least look forward to the time off if you are lucky enough to get it. PS Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
What irks me about "Auld Lang Syne" (the meaning of which is perfectly clear, by the way) is when people put "the sake of" into the last line! Where on earth did that come from?

I hate it... go to bed usually..can't be doing with strangers slobbering over you ...uuurrrggghhhh !!!
Dave, as soon i saw saw this thread i guessed correctly that you wrote it. Don't go out if you hate New Years Eve, stay in and watch a DVD of your choice. You will then be able drive into town and collect your wife from town after the festivities have ended. A good solution for everyone involved.

A man after my own heart MarkRae - irritates me intensely when "the sake of" is put into Auld Lang Syne. Also hate when "guess who?" is put into Flower of Scotland.
I always feel, when people do that handshaking thing, as if they're wringing every last drop of false sentiment out of the words. The "for the sake of" just seems to underline it.
