can anybody tell me what B&Q,Tesco and Texaco stand for?

B & Q = intials of its founders Block and Quayle.

Texaco = originally called The Texas Company, then became known as Texaco, an amalgamation of the words Texas and Company.

Tesco's was part of Jack COhen's surname & http://tesco-stores.jobs.cz/en/his.html

Esso - though you didn't ask comes from Standard Oil

Further to the Jack Cohen answer - another of the founders was SomebodyTesman so they just took both their names and shortened them... I had to sit through a history of tesco vid when i started working there at uni... yawn.. came in handy though ; )
