I want to buy a camera privately. I wanted to pay with Paypal but the person insists that I pay him by bank transfer. Do I have any protection like Paypal if item is not received?

Thanks all
@EDDIE51 He did suggested that I pay him half first and when the camera arrives pay the outstanding.
All's well that ends well and much ado about nothing.
Paypal didn't protect me.
Clearly I didn't know what hoops to jump through beforehand.

I wouldn't even pay half if it was a cheap camera. Nothing wrong with how you want to pay.
I don,t think you should even pay half ,it could still be a scam and the person who pays does not have to pay any Paypal fees ,only the seller, and most sellers usually add a bit extra to allow for the fees being deducted anyway

I should listened to you people's advice and NEVER should have done the deed. I was too trusting to believe the guy actually will post the item after I made half the payment by bank transfer . Now realised I've been scammed. I lost a small amount equivalent to a parking fine. Lesson learned.

I feel like sh1t now.
How do you know, beswad - it's only been 24 hours since you first posted you were thinking of paying. He's not had time to send you the camera yet?
Question Author
@boxtops Because the guy promised to texted me the tracking number after he posted. I even texted several times asking if he sent it but never got a reply hence I could only concluded I've been shafted!
Hmm - I'd allow him at least until tomorrow to post it before I started thinking the worst...
So, did you pay the deposit by Bank Transfer.
If so you've got his name and bank details?
Question Author
@SlackAlice Yes I have his missus' bank details. I even rang my bank's helpline last night to ask for the transfer to be reverse but they are unable to help. I don't believe there is much I can do.

@boxtops The thing is he was very active at texting me before the transfer then after that he never reply to my texts.
Very annoyed if it was me. I'd class it as theft but I doubt if plod would be interested.
I live in Finland and a guy did this to my friend ,the police went around and took the money back off him so try it .It cannot do any harm and you might get it back
Good luck
