Gas fires

Hi, I posted this on 'how it works' but no replies. We have a Renaissance gas fire and need some white ceramic rope stuff which goes along the front, and also some new 'coals'. We found the factory we bought the fire from but it was closed down, we did find the rope we needed on ebay but the site was obsolete since 2007 :0( Does anyone know where we can get it, and also do you need different coals (and rope) for different fires. Surely we don't have to replace the whole fire for a bit of ceramic rope??? Hope someone can help, rosy

A quick check on Google for 'stove door rope seal' and 'Gas fire coals' brought up quite a few links for both items. There's also advice on replacing a door seal, and though the article is for a wood stove and mentions a fibreglass rope seal, the technique for replacement will be the same...

Thank you for replying heathfield, I thought everyone had left town :o) Our fire doesn't have a door on, it is open just like a normal fire, the rope lies along the front of the coals, but I am sure it will be similar to the rope you mention, so I will look for the links you found. Builders merchants also keep the rope in packs (for flue/chimney installers) It may or may not be the correct size. I keep it in stock.
Some are a special moulded shape though, although I think yours is standard.
Ideally, you should find the manufacturer's tag/sticker and look for the Gas Council number (GC) and quote that for parts if you need other original bits.

Thank you too Albags. I will try a builders merchant.Thank you also for the link for the coals. The reason I asked the question was that we were talking to a saleslady in a fireplace/gas showroom and she said we must have the proper rope and the proper coals for our particular fire, they were all different, but as the DGF makers seem to have disappeared (from Darlington) whats a person to do???
