I put a bid in for 55p, but it came up as £55 on Ebay, I have tried to alter but I have had no success.

Thank you I tried again and it has been cancelled
great! =)
Warning for the future, you van only cancel a bid for 1 hour sfter you have made it.
sometimes, dont you just wish for an edit button, Ed ;-)
I rhought it wad dome lind og ner langyagr OJ!
lol!
One hour only ? Are the bids legally binding anyway ? One hears stories of folk not following thorugh and I was under the impression the worst that occurs is negative feedback and a possible ban ? For a genuine error one would hope eBay would be sympathetic anyway.
I once entered a bid of £500 instead of £5.00, I emailed the seller and they were very good and immediately cancelled it from their end for me.
There are many stories on the forums that tell you the same old-geezer
Although eBay will say somewhere within it's T%C's that you are entering a legally binding contract there is no way they can, or do enforce it. If the buyer doesn't pay or the seller doesn't sell, they get a black mark on their a/c. More than one can add restrictions, including a temporary NARu.
Those little starts also cause the same effect

However, bidding £55 instead of 55p would seriously annoy me. You have to confirm at least once you want to bid the amount you have, so one would question whether it is a genuine mistake or buyer remorse?

Can't see anything here about only having an hour to retract a bid tho

Bet that gave you a fright !
O-G, it's a legal contract, before you press Submit a warning comes up saying that you are entering into a legal contract to buy.
which doesn't mean a lot boxtops, unfortunately
I know from experience that there is a 1 hour limit. I once put in a bid of £5000 instead of £5, didn't realise until 3 hours later,I could not retract it. Ebay told me there was a 1 hour limit.
Sorry about the typos, the dog has chewed up my glasses !

Type Your Answer Here...It was more than 1 hour in my case. I contacted the seller as well and he got back to me but by then he noticed it had been cancelled
LOL Ed

I've not come across the hour limit myself but saying that I don't bid on much over a fiver anyway :)
At least you got it sorted
Surely even if you win the auction, and it looks as though you will, you will only pay the next increment up from the next highest bidder.

In other words, if the highest bidder apart from you bids, let's say £4.50, then you will win the bid with the next increment up, which could be £5.00, and that's all you would pay.

The only way you would pay £55.00 is if the next highest bidder put a bid in just under that amount. Not knowing the item I've no idea what the value could be.
