An egg shortage coming, so they are saying on the news this morning. The prices will go up of course. Can we manage without them ? How much do you pay for yours ?
I get my free range from a local farm shop 90p for 6. They are beautiful. Had one for breakfast this morning. I dont eat a lot, but eggs are in so many things, so we probably cant mange without them.
I work in catering industry (Cafe) and we purchase large boxes of eggs (360 per box) at a time. We'd been warned of the shortage over 2 wks ago, in that time the price of the box for us to purchase has gone up by £20. Our supplier has even said they are stopping supplies until the price goes back down again as lots of their customers (mainly cafes/diners etc) are taking them off them menu for time being or putting their own prices up to cover their costs.
Dave - the EU regs came in force about how chickens are looked after, this has forced farmers (some) to make changes to equipment which are proving costly
From what I understand from the news at Lunchtime from the Beeb, is 4 EU ccountries have not/are not complying with the new regulations therefore they cannot export their eggs legally. This means a shortage (apparently) therefore the price is going to increase.
