An egg shortage coming, so they are saying on the news this morning. The prices will go up of course. Can we manage without them ? How much do you pay for yours ?
I get my free range from a local farm shop 90p for 6. They are beautiful. Had one for breakfast this morning. I dont eat a lot, but eggs are in so many things, so we probably cant mange without them.
80p for 6 farm eggs - walk across the Churchyard and there's a box at the entrance to a farm....eggs are from their hens that wander around their garden and farm, over half a mile away down their "drive"
during summer months £1 for 6 free range, fresh from a work colleague
Winter months, what ever is on offer
Shop eggs are ridiculously pricey for what you get which ever way you look at it
On Radio 4 last week it was explained that the main problem was for food manufacturers who buy their egg products by the tonne, not so much for Joe public who wanted half a dozen for the kitchen.
No doubt this will be missed as the usual suspects profiteer on the back of scare stories.
I have a farmer friend who has chickens and every Sunday he brings me two trays of eggs for nowt, in return I use my staff discount on his shopping at work :-)
I have three hens in the back garden. Been a bit tight through winter with only a couple laying twice a week (4 eggs pw.) but all thee laying now and 15 per week on average. Any excess go to neighbours who don't complain about the clucking.
Egg prices may be going up due to the proposed new laws controlling battery Hens. Pressure brought about by animal rights busybodies, I'm not sure if any new farming legislatures have gone through.
