He does like a tot in the evening but is mainly a real ale drinker. I didn't know what to get him for his birthday but he happened to say if anyone asks He'd like a hip flask.
The family are getting him garden vouchers. He does go walking and on a cold day a little snifter when its cold
I've seen them sized in ounces but not sure which is pocket sized

I've just had the calculator out.
Pubs used to serve single measures of spirits as 25ml, and many still do, but some now use 35ml measures.
Using the OLD way of measuring, an 8oz flask holds 4½ DOUBLES. Using that as a reference point, you should be able to see whether, say, a 3oz or 4oz flask would be big enough. (It might well be if the function of the flask is simply to be able to tip some booze into a coffee in Costa. It might not be if the purpose of using the flask is to get somewhat 'relaxed'!)

That depends upon the size of his pockets! (Country jackets, such as those that made Barbour famous, tend to have very large pockets. Lounge suits often have far smaller ones).
Looking at some examples on Amazon though, provides these typical measurements:
10oz: 13.8 x 9.3 x 2.2cm
8oz: 14 x 10 x 3cm (which is marginally bigger than the 10oz example!)
6oz: 9.8 x 9.3 x 2.2cm
4oz: 10 x 9 x 2cm
