Tkmaxx Asking Customers To Donate £1 To Cancer Research At Till Awful

We seem to be surrounded by charities begging bowls everywhere we go I went to TK Maxx to buy a bag today and at the till I was asked if I wanted to make a £1 donation to Cancer Research. I feel that this is totally inappropriate and I find it offensive, if i want to give to charity i will but I dont expect to be asked to do this at the till. Charities are flipping everywhere using mailshots, emails phoning you you walk down the street and you are harranged by chuggers. Charity is becoming big business. some customers may feel pressuriesed and end up giving not because they want to but feel they have to what do ab think of this

Just say no thank you, there is no need to feel harassed nor any need to feel obliged. As for "chuggers" if you totally ignore them,not engage in any form of conversation they will go find someone else.

For a long time I thought shops such as Primark should have a voluntary contribution of say 1p per item to help workers conditions - nothing to the customer but those pennies will soon add up

I find chuggers and beggers hard to ignore (I was brought up by the Sisters of the Cross and Passion you know) I simply raise my hand and say no 'thank you'
Inevitably they respond with 'Have a nice day' and I say 'You too'

I agree Geordie, but some people will feel obliged to give.

When I buy tickets online to go to concerts at a local venue, you can click to add a donation. I just ignore that, I pay enough for the tickets.

Say,"No thanks, but would you like to give £1 to [fill in your favourite charity]"

Or even, "Yes, and would you like to give £2 to [fill in your favourite charity]"

I don`t like it either. It makes me feel uncomfortable. It probably makes the staff feel uncomfortable as well but they probably have no choice in the matter.

It's amazing what these Marketing "Experts" dream up for the unfortunate till operators.

At B&Q currently it's "Did you find everything you wanted today". Guy nearly imploded when I said No, but then he remembered the stock response, "You can find a greater selection online at .......".

So how do you feel about scouts and the like offering to pack your shopping for a donation? I always give them something as at least they are making an effort,though rarely let them pack my bags as I'm a bit anal about that lol!
