Yes, a very impressive chap.
Some people criticise the honours system but few would begrudge him his further reward.

I agree with you both here.

Rather than have Civil Servants getting their Buggins Turn, we should have more people like Simon getting recognition.
Don't begrudge him that at all....

For those of you wanting to try and sing the Welsh Anthem, here we are, some St David's guidelines:

Description:
Now here is a man who really deserves to be honoured....x
Well done Simon, a well deserved honour.
Good for him! Well deserved
A long time coming, but yes well deserved.
Well deserved. Simon is a remarkable man.

I think awards were given to Civil Servants because, back in the day, there was no special performance bonus pay in place; being answerable to the taxpayer and tasked with providing value for money, it would have been counter-intuitive.

So, in an environment where one person would do everything required of them and another, same pay grade, same length of service, consistently went above and beyond the call of duty, with *no expectation or demand* of extra pay, the gong was the only way to give them public recognition for decades of effort.

In Simon's case, if it is to do with supporting ex-services personnel then I'm guessing that it was voluntary work. Well done to him!

had the honour of meeting this hero at a princes trust thingy...well deserved an amazing person who has fought against all types of demons in is life..had many struggles and now is a much respected man with a wife and loving family..he never thought this would happen after the atrocity of The Falklands..a true survivor and what an example to everyone who thinks their life is worthless and unimportant..my respect for this gent is as unmeasurable as the grains of sand in the Sahara
He is indeed a true hero.

Calling sports people heroes is an insult to such brave people as Simon.

They don't lay their life on the line for the good of others. They do it to increase their bank balance.
