Anybody living in the NW will be aware of Booths Supermarkets. They were known as the Waitrose of the north but having been going downhill faster than Eddie the Eagle. My local Booths seems to have got rid of over half the staff and the gaps on the shelves are embarrassing. I see today, reports of them putting the businessup for sale. Although I am moving south next year, I hope somebody can turn the business around. If you are a NW person, will you miss them.

They've been in trouble for ages:

The Financial Times reported last month that they'd agreed to deal with Amazon to sell their products online, enabling them to reach the whole of the UK market, but perhaps it's too little, too late?
Heating back on, Sam?
I used to live in the NW and Booths was my favourite supermarket. Lots of local, good quality produce. It will be a shame if they close.

They once had a USP of quality local produce, that's long gone. I think they will close within six months, it doesn't look an attractive proposition to a buyer.
I've always loved Booths, not a store near enough for me to visit often sadly.

I guess it was inevitable they couldn't keep up.
Have seen a couple of them in the Manchester area but have never been in as the prices were horrendous. Not surprised they are in trouble.

Yes thanks Goodgoalie, I posted yesterday. Engineer got it going at about 3.00pm, tiny little sensor had failed.
What a shame. We loved to do a shop there when we’re stopping in cottages in the Dales and Lakes. They were expensive but the quality of goods was excellent.

I used them for all my fruit, and any veg I didn't grow, quality was first class, not any more.
Aww .... shame - I'll def miss it, but not in the same sense as other people.
It's conveniently situated for me when I clean windows in Barrowford, as I sometimes need the loo and I drive right past it :)
A great company who have made it this far, against all odds. I would be very sad to see them go but the writing has been on the wall for a few years now...
