I am looking for a knitting pattern for an old fashioned, mens waistcoat. Does anybody know where I am likely to get one. Have looked onsome internet sites without any luck.

What exacly do you mean by a 'grandad waistcoat'? The wooly type of thing or the silk (or similar) typeof thing which used to be worn by stationmasters, etc. If it's the latter, try here:

You can download these patterns for free.Only problem with it being an american site you have to convert needle sizes.

I scanned your question and completely failed to see that you wanted a knitting pattern rather than a completed waistcoat. Now, my Mummy always said to say sorry and to make amends, so here goes:

It's also worth remembering that many charity shops have hundreds of knitting patterns for sale (but you may have to ask for them - they're rarely on display).

Sorry to hijack your thread G-Ma-pat ,but ..I have to thank chris for that brilliant site. I am an avid knitter and collect all sorts of ephemara to do with knitting..old books,patterns etc.
I can download some of these to add to my collection.
