Pink hair dye

I have dark brown hair and would like to dye a streak of my hair at the front pink. But i've looked in the shops and from looking at the packet it wouldn't be a brightish pink at all because my hair is so dark. I've seen people who have managed to do it, can anyone help? I dont really want to go to the hair dressers just for this as it would work out quite expensive.

You'll need to lighten it first - bleach. Then put the pink on. I'd honestly go to a hairdressers though. If you can't afford it, most colleges with hairdressing courses, and hairdressers with apprentices, do cheap nights for the trainees to practice.

I woudl say go to the hairdressers! To do it yourself you'll have to dye the selected bit of hair as blonde as possible (nearly white) and then dye it pink. Could be tricky to do yourself. Surely if you REALLY REALLY want it done its worth the money?

you can buy hair extensions that just clip into the hair or ones that plait into the hair ,they come in a vast range of colours ,including pink, i don't know where you are but any west indian/african haidressing supply shop will stock them. or babyliss do a thing called colourlights for about �40 that put colour extensions to you hair -check them out in you argos catalogue-it would probably cost that to have a streak put in at a salon anyway

I have really dark brown hair and yet dyed the whole lot pillar box red a few years ago. I didn't have to bleach it totally white but just used a normal hair dye (auburn) and then bought a bright red colour from a goth-type shop. They do lots of colours - pink, green, blue. I was amazed at the brightness. The pink will gradually fade/wash out but the permanent dye will remain and you just have to reapply the pink after a few weeks.

bleaching it yourself isn't too hard really, just follow the instructions carefully and read everything at least twice! I'll warn you though, it's high maintenence, I have to do mine every week or so it keep it bright and pretty and it can be a hassle. It'll cost you about �5 for bleach (jerome russell is good) and about �5 for they dye (La Riche Directions last a bit longer than others, 'Fire' red lasts 3 weeks without looking horrible) and you'll need a brush for the dye which is about �2.50. So �12.50 compared to �60 that I paid at my hairdressers, it's up to you!

yep, definitely bleach it first. I tried it on my hair with just lightening the hair - it came out ok, you could definitely see the pink, but it all worked SO much better when i bleached streaks into it.

Have you got someone who can help (who you would trust to do it!). It's possible to bleach it yourself but a lot easier if someone else does it, particularly at the roots so you don't get a blob of bleached roots

google 'stargazer hair colour' - get the magenta colour. i had a full head of pink hair for years and it was beautiful. bleach it first - i used Bbleach - got it from superdrug and its works fine
