What was your best boot sale purchase and why?

I bought a (perfect working order), stacked, stereo system for �6 once.

I'd spotted it a good while before returning but kept an eye out for other potential buyers approaching it.

When they were packing up the items that hadn't sold I asked if they could wait till I went to a bank to get some money?.. As I only had �6 left on me (fib).

They said "ok", as it would save them packing it away. I parted with my money and my sound system... Rapidly.

It's a cruel world and all that, but Mudman's story brought back a horrible memory. The one time I did a car boot sale (never again!) was when I was desperately hard-up. It was heart-breaking seeing really quite valuable possessions going for next to nothing. People haggling and beating down the prices.

Some regular car-booters are mini-businesses, but I wonder if the occasional one is an unfortunate on his uppers.

I almost hope the stereo didn't work !!
