I'm in desparate need of some new curtains for my lounge - problem is we have a big bay window and a balcony door to cover so I need full length curtains (floor to ceiling about 2.5m??) and total width about 4 or 5m. We don't have curtain poles so need the normal curtains that you put hooks on. Does anyone know of a cheap store or website? I looked on Ikea but all theirs seem to be tab-top which is no good for us.
Have a loook in your yellow pages, or online for the curtain exchange shops. I live in essex and we have a couple in surrounding areas where people can buy or exchange curtains,
Might be cheaper to make some if you can find some fabric you like? Do you know anyone with a sewing machine? Making curtains is not too difficult.
Or if you find tab-tops long enough, remove tabs and sew on some curtain tape to put the hooks in (lengths of this can be bought from fabric shops).
I got some really cheap lined curtains from Argos. I had to check the price about 10 times because I didn't believe how cheap they were and although they will never win any awards, they aren't bad quality.
Have you thought about dying the ones you have, for a new look?
Alternatively, check out your local charity shops, there always seem to be masses of textriles in there.
Or put a wanted listing on Freecycle.
I bought 4 pair of 90 x90 off ebay for 55.00 including postage! They are neutral cream and lined, they arn't as good quality as they claim in the advert "heavy material" but they are definately as good as some I've had from British Home Stores, and warmer and heavier than Ikea they were from a seller called onlinechoices on ebay, I think they sell single pairs also.
