breakable vase

Hi,
I'm in am amateur dramatic group and in the next play, someone has to be hit over the head with a vase. The vase has to shatter.
I'm sure we should be able to obtain a vase made out of 'sugar glass' but where?
I've found a supplier of bottles made specially for this purpose, but it has to be a vase.
Any suggestions anyone?

We had the same problem years ago. We got round it by using a parcel with some broken china inside it. The script was amended so that one of the actors declared that 'this is a new vase we've bought for mother', or words to that effect. Worked very well, as long as care was taken on-stage not to allow the broken bits to rattle before the blow was struck!
