Is ther a law stating that food must have a sell by date on, i saw a cucumber with no date on in a supermarket, so how do you know hw long its been on the shelf for etc
Dc, if the food is in packaging then yes it should have a date on it and you should have pointed it out to a member of staff. If it is unpackaged food then no, it doesn't have to have a date on it and i'm afraid you just have to trust the shop staff to take away food thats been there too long
Fresh fruit and veg need no sell by date unless they have been cut. If you think about it, how often have you seen dates on loose fruit and veg before? If they look fresh, the chances are they'll be okay.
It was a whole cucumber wrapped in plastic, i always thought it had to have a date on, i work on fruit and veg at work and im told to remove anything that hasnt got a date on it eg cucumbers, bags of carrots, bags of salad,
Help is at hand. A company called Dateline is experimenting with a new sell by date system for fruit and vegetables. Apparently the date will be impregnated all the way through, just like a stick of rock and will be launched before the end of the year, in all major supermarkets.
