M & Co

There are only two clothes shops in my town one of which is M & Co. I have never come across this chain before but I cant believe the prices they charge, especially considering the clothes seem to be of poor quality IMO.

I was just wondering how others perceived this chain, is it supposed to be posh (a bit like Next, as the prices are similiar).

I have seen a couple here in Glasgow but thought they were part of McKays - seem to be where McKays shops previously were. I have shopped occasionally in McKays for children as felt things were quite good and reasonably priced for every day items but not for myself. Did not imagine quality v good and felt things were a bit old fashioned. Not shopped there for a while.

M & Co is the rebrand name of Mackays. They are a long-established company, and have been operating throughout Scotland for many years. They always struck me as aiming at the slightly under middle-quality market, and remind me of the Co-op in that sense, (!).
If you are selective in what they stock, you'll find some excellent items amongst the other stuff, though I'd tend to leave it till they have a sale on.

Hi joannie, the other shop we have is Peacocks, so I am a little limited for choice. I did buy some baby stuff in M & co recently and it is lovely but it was in the sale so I didn't mind as I was getting two thirds off.

I do pop into M & Co when I am in the High Street and agree that some of the stuff is a little old fashioned but even when I see something that I think is nice I am astounded at the price, maybe I am just too tight!

It's not a bit 'posh' - it certainly isn't trendy. I find their prices very reasonable, and it is better than BeWise or Ethel Austin, that's for sure.

Yes heathfield, I have got a few bargains in the sales, got mrwarpig some clobber and he was very happy.

hi warpig, we have peacocks and M&Co here too, along with a few other high street shops.

Maternity stuff i bought from peacocks fell aparts within 2 weeks as does kids stuff

M&Co ive had no problem with myself. I got a few tops in the sale, in larger sizes and they fit over my bump fine at a lot less than the price of maternity stuff.

Sadly we dont have a childrens section but ive seen their stuff and its good quality.

Morning redcrx, I only noticed the maternity gear in Peacocks the other day but they didn't have much and there was nothing that took my fancy, mind you, its a bit late for me to be buying maternity clothes now and I have no plans to be needing any in the future!

Dont bother with their stuff. Mothercare dungers are all youll ever need with various tops :)

we got one in the past year in our town and i was suprised at the price of the clothes for the quality, it's quite pricey. i haven't bought anything from there as i would much rather get good quality for my money.
though i did manage to pick up some very snazzy gold boots in the sale for �5!! bargain!

they have some nice childrens clothes in there and i have bought a few things but it is a bit over priced for what it is. adult clothes are a bit old fashioned

We have a Peacocks opening up soon - they have taken over a shop from Gap - are they rubbish then? I was looking forward to a bogle round as I have never seen one of these before. Someone said they were a bit like an upmarket Primark. I haven't bought anything fom Mackays for years, my Mum buys the kids the odd thing form there, I would say the quality is ok, the styling a bit iffy and it is probably good if your kids are on the chunky side - it is always a bit too wide and short for my kids!

Peacocks isnt too bad annie, some of the stuff is a bit young for me but it is reasonably priced for what you get. I havent bought much in there but when I nip in and have a good look around there is usually something that catches my eye. I think it just depends on what stock they get in. But the lady who works there told me that if you see something you like buy it as they tend not to get repeat orders, at least that way you can return it.

I bought a cardigan in Peacocks last week (oh I sound like a granny!) but it is fashionable one IMO and it was only �12 so I was pleased and I know M & S have previously stocked a similar style at around �35 so I was happy.

Actually its is similar to this but is in fine knit and the sleeves are much more flared at the bottom and longer.

That looks nice warpig - it has a nice space at the bottom for the bump! I am looking forward to it opening, not that I buy much for myself, I spend all my cash on the kids - not that they appreciate it being boys they would be just as happy wearing the same old t-shirt everyday. . I will miss Gap though, mind you, I only ever bought stuff when it was reduced in the sale, so I probably didn't help to keep it open!

I am kinda luck annie as the outlet centre in Livi is only a bus ride away and although I am not a great shopper I can while away a few hours there. they have Gap, Next and M & S not to mention the other shops that I would not normally shop in (too expensive).

Actually that picture doesn't really do the cardigan that I bought justice, mine in much nicer and it looks great teamed up with my leather hotpants and thigh high leather boots, lol!!!!!!!!

Hi warpig - we are not that far from Livingston(Stirling) but I don't drive on Motorways and mr annie drives all week, so i feel bad asking him to drive me there to go shopping - which is not one of his favourite things and that also means we have to drag the boys with us - strangely they don't like shopping either - unless it is the toyshop or the newsagents (Beano & Dandy).

Hope baby doesn't keep you waiting too long - I can remember being incredibly bored waiting for the baby to arrive. Never been bored since!

Do they do leather hot pants with an elastic front?

Mrwarpig is the same for shopping, its just not worth the hassle to bring him with me even when its for clothes for him. I once tried to buy him a pair of shoes and he wouldn't wear them because they sounded funny!!!!!!! FFS, sounded funny??????? I can assure you that I wasn't laughing! Mind you he seems to find it quite acceptable for me to hang around B & Q for hours while he appreciates the various attributes of each and every wall plug, screw, drill, drill bit zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, yawn!

As for the hotpants, I just let it all hang out.

Just wait until you are wandering round the shopping centre- wondering if you actually washed yourself that day, never mind brushed your hair or changed out of your sick stained jammies. You'll wonder what you ever saw in leather hotpants - mind you, at least they wipe clean, maybe not such a bad idea - I don't know how they would look with a muffin top and a clarty coupon!!! You would probably not look too much out of place in the Amondvale centre, though you may get the odd look in McArthur Glen!!
