I know there's a similar thread going on, but I'm thinking about home shopping for the first time. can anyone recommend the best for quality, accuracy, charges, delivery times and whatever else I haven't even considered?
I always use sainsburys and they do the stuff ethel says tesco do. I have heard if you want to garuntee you get everything you order then you neeed to go with ocado (waitrose) as they come from a warehouse rather than a shop and they only let you order what they have.
Bear in mind too, that possibly the "weekly shop" is in fact quicker.
i never spend less than an hour internet shopping
Also, bear in mind if you do amend your order you have to check out again
They won't deliver petrol but they do deliver alcohol, could you run your car on chablis? Also you can get most of what you would normally buy in a chemist (you may have to sign for paracetamol etc.) and various other items that you tend to forget when food shopping. I buy toilet rolls in bulk when shopping online but only small packs when I go to the supermarket in person.
There are drawbacks, you cannot test the quality of fruit and vegetables like you could in person and you have to accept what someone else selects for you instead of picking out the ripest apples.
On the whole I think it is an excellent idea and one I would miss terribly if it were withdrawn.
okay, I'm definitely going to give it a go but my head is swimming so I may just stick a pin in the screen to choose which one! I assume Ocado is the dearest.
I am a bit picky about my shopping, so it may be disappointing but it's too much effort to drive, shop, pack, drive back, unpack... I'm sick of it :o/
Don't assume Ocado are the dearest. I am using them currently after using Tesco for a good while. Ocado price match most everyday items with Tesco and their delivery prices/slots are good. They manage orders against stock levels in a warehouse so substitutions are rare. They are more expensive for meat where they don't price match but the quality is generally better anyway. My biiggest complaint is that the range of goods available is less than Tesco/Sainsbury.
I always do online shopping for my elderly mother, from Tesco Online and also Wiltshire Farms. Delivery is always efficient and the delivery drivers always pack her food away for her.
I highly reccommend online shopping, it takes the stress out of doing it yourself.
