Can I take a top back that I dont have receipt for and no tags in it either, its got holes in the shoulder

Shoplifters know that if they nick a £30 garment they'll only get a fiver for it in their local pub. But if they put a hole in it and manage to convince the store that they bought it from there in that condition, they'll get £30 in cash. So store managers are naturally wary of giving refunds to people who can't produce a receipt.

Unless the name of the store is obvious from the label, you're going to have to ask whoever gave you the the present where they got it from. So perhaps you might persuade them to return it for you as well? (They might have the receipt or a debit/credit card or statement showing the original transaction)
