I found an old carrier bag today with some of my mums knitting magazines and some needles, so thought I would attempt to make something. The things is I saw a chart in one of them with 2 lots of needle sizes - UK and metric. For example it says UK7 = Metric 4.5mm, UK6 = Metric 5mm.
There are 2 pairs of needles still in their packets - and on them they say 5.0 and 6.0, so is that UK or metric sizing??
Thanks mamya. Have bookmarked the page. Seems like a brilliant scheme. Both my children were born in South Africa so perhaps our circle is being squared!
Thanks for the patterns. I need someone to knit for. I have knitted loads of tiny cardigans for the local babies, but I don't think they wear them. They put them into babygros and the rest is just forgotten. But what do I do with them when they are done? I have just moved so I don't know anyone here but previously I knitted tiny blankets for the local prem unit in the maternity hospital. They are only about 10 inches square as the babies are so tiny they don't have to be any bigger, and what is easier than knitting a square. I used to give them to the lady next door who worked there, but I would love to knit for the fish n chip babies if anyone knows where to send the finished product.
oooh yes I love knitting - beanies for premmie bubs, etc haven't caught up with the fishnchips but will investigate
now does anyone have a pattern for gloves - knitted 'sideways' is how I'd describe them - I've knitted from a standard pattern but a friend has given me a pair which have been made using this rather odd technique - has anyone encountered these before ?? if so would appreciate any info
I only knit squares for blankets these days or two needle socks mainly to keep my fingers working . My SiL sews the squares up and they go to Rumania.
I like the look of those little jumpers for babies though and have loads of odd wool so will have a go .I suppose you could donate them to Oxfam .
wow, that's just what I'm looking for - many thanks, shaney
I've accumulated quite a pile of 'leftovers' and friends often give me theirs, knowing I knit for the hospitals, but I'll definitely give the little tops a go, I can't handle anything too big now, my hands are a bit dodgy too
comes to us all in time, I guess, thanks again skz
hi smow - yes I found this one by chance - you're right, we come here very seldom, but this was most timely, I've been hunting everywhere for this pattern and then within 5 mins shaney comes along with the goods !! how's that for the power of AB - have already knitted the gloves and now my craft group want to get onto the jumpers for Soweto !!
I'm glad I've read through this. Knitting for prems and the fishnchips has inspired me to take it back up again.
Can't manage adult stuff anymore either.
Thanks folks xx
wow....it's nice to know there are like-minded people out there and i'm really interested in that pattern for gloves too. i've got lots of leftovers and shall start knitting again too. btw...has any one looked at the lady's arts and craft pictures? she's pretty handy...x
