I can only say, when (some years ago) I was seconded by BT to work on the Buckingham Palace switchboard, and the BP Post Office was next door. The Queen bought (and paid for) stamps for her own personal mail. Her official mail was paid for out of the Civil List,by stamp or franked mail.

Information courtesy of the then BP Postmaster!

PS Actually the stamps are the property of the Post Office, even though it's called "Royal" Mail.

She must get someone else to lick them though. It would be weird licking the back of your own head wouldnt it?
Ha ha...I like that comment Glossopswift.
Dunno where you've been lately Glossopswift, but stamps are self-adhesive these days!
not if her maj pops into a post office as they rip the lickable ones out of the book

Well twiglet,

I guess they did at BP,because when I worked there it was still "lickable" stamps, and I have often seen the figure of a retreating Queen disappearing after actually buying her own stamps, in the BP Post Office.

She sometimes came and chatted with the Switchboard staff, but not when I was there!
