Just curious to know about the pipe musicians who play South American folk music on the streets of UK and elsewhere in the world. Where do they come from, How long do they tour, where do they live, do they make any money from selling their CDs and how many bands are there doing this around Europe.

more likely to be Peruvian or possibly other South Americans, Dom Tuk; Mexicans go in more for mariachi bands. Then again, maybe they all come from Ealing and have day jobs in IT.
.. are they here legally, do they have permits to perform, do they pay taxes.  The list just goes on...

Dont care if they are here legally or not. Their music is soothing, their talents are vast and they are a much better sight than the gap toothed, booze infested wasters who try to sell you a overpriced magazine only to spend it on drugs and booze.
