I really recommend going to TGS. The standard's very high and, unless you make friends with the wrong people, you are sure to push yourself very hard and get good results.
If you are thinking about going into the 6th from to do IB however, definitely go to Sevenoaks,( TGS has only been doing the IB for a couple of years).
Also, if you're v keen at sport, TGS' sports facilities aren't great so you might want to look elsewhere.
But TGS is definitely a really good school, and I'm so glad I went there (having gone, I think I'm def more grounded than lots of my friends who have been at private schools all there lives). There is always a great mix of people in each year so you're sure to make loads of friends.
Basc, you really should go. (p.s. I'm happy to answer any questions you have about the school).x
Hi
I went to the recent open day during the day when classes were in session and was impressed. The school is vibrant and all the girls seemed happy and pleasant to both fellow pupils and teachers alike. It could do with a lick of paint but building works are planned. We are thinking of it as a choice for my daughter and we live in the borouth of Croydon which has no grammar schools. Even though the journey would be tough it would still be a high choice for us. If anyone knows of anyone who travels there from the Purley area so we could share lifts I'd be very interested.
Just started university having been at TGS for seven years. It is a really good school and I really enjoyed my time there. Looks wise it leaves a lot to be desired and some of the facilities are rather poor, but it makes up for this with the enthusiasm of the staff and the pupils and it has links with many of the other local schools so you can use their facilities (such as the theatre and chapel at Tonbridge School).
There is now a new head mistress in charge so I have no idea what changes she will bring to the school, and you should be aware that there has been a lot of difficulty in trying to get the approval for the plans and the necessary finances for the new buildings, but it is an exceedingly good school and I have some very happy memories of my time there.
