American visas.

I adore america and for as long as i can remember i have wanted to live there, but it is near imposable to get visas. We dont have fifty grand in the bank or proffesions that are very usefull, im a chef and my husband is an office manager.We have been several times before and now i want it more than ever, we both live in the uk. Does anyone have any ideas i havnt already tried?

Sorry, but I think you're onto a non-starter here. The only way of getting permanent resident status in the US (unless you've already got relatives there or have some very desireable skills) is through the Green Card Lottery scheme. Up until the 2007entry, at least, UK citizens aren't allowed to enter the lottery because of the large number of UK citizens already entering the country.

So, unless you can manage to convince the US immigration authorities that some of Mr Blair's dafter policies make you eligible for political asylum :-) you haven't really got any chance of emigrating to the US.

I have also enquired there are other ways to spend a considerable amount of time in the usa. Ii have looked into it and corresponded with people who could organise me work and a visa. Some visas can be for as long as 18 mths some 6 or even 10 it all depends on your current situation. If you go to www.worktravelcompany.co.uk have a browse through that maybe that will be helpful. If you both dont have kids why dont you just save really hard and spend 3 mths in usa and travel to Canada or Mexico for a couple of weeks and re-enter usa but WITH proof of funds for another 3 months. But i think the other person was right it may be a no beginner, but i think if you love USA that much try this website i gave you its at least something and dont forget they say when the visa does expire you can renew it!!!
