whats the difference between a shy person and a quiet person?

My dad's quiet but not shy.  He isn't quiet cos he's afraid to talk to people, he just doesn't have a lot to say!  I know him well enough to know that when talking needs to be done, he has no fear of it.

Quiet people take their choice to be quiet - shy people are quiet because they have no choice - it's sadly as simple as that.
