A query about the BNP (a genuine one, I'm not trying to stir up trouble) My mum was Itallian (she's dead now) and my dad English. So I suppose you could say that I'm mixed race. I was born here in Britian, I'm white and have lived here all my life. I consider myself British. However, just wondering - if the BNP ever came into power - does anyone know what would happen to people like me - would me and my kids be asked to leave the country and leave my fully -English husband behind?? I genuinely don't know what the BNP would make of that - or would I be safe because of my colour?

You say you were born here, so you're British. It's a bit academic anyway your question - there are less extreme parties who have no chance of gaining any real power, so the BNP have none.

The problem with the BNP is no-one really knows exactly what they would do were they to gain any real power because to hold views like theirs you must be mentally ill in the first place.

Just try to imagine a pack of football hooligans who hate black people, immigrants, Jews, etc etc etc with the treasury, army and police force at their disposal, then you'll get the approximate idea I would imagine.

Happily I have more chance of being elected Pope than they have of coming to power:)

The 2005 manifesto of the BNP (page 14) says "we call for... the introduction of a system of voluntary resettlement whereby those immigrants and their descendants who are legally here are afforded the opportunity to return to their lands of ethnic origin assisted by generous financial incentives both for individuals and for the countries in question". However, the BNP allows membership of the BNP for those who are of "British or white European" origin. Therefore if you are half-Italian, and born in Britain, you would almost certainly count as British enough and white enough to stay. In recent years there has been controversy within the BNP about a candidate who has stood even though he is half-Turkish. The BNP doesn't even obey its own rules about ethnic membership of the party.
There was a time when people said the Nazis would never gain power. It is interesting to read how they did so. One of my favourite quotations is from the philosopher Edmund Burke, The only thing necessary for the triumph [of evil] is for good men to do nothing.

This song "Yellow Triangle" was influenced by the poem by Pastor Martin Niemoller.

When they came for the Jews and the blacks, I turned away

When they came for the writers and the thinkers and the radicals and the protestors, I turned away

When they came for the gays, and the minorities, and the utopians, and the dancers, I turned away

And when they came for me, I turned around and around, and there was nobody left.

If the BNP came into power they would sort out how we deal with the immagrants and refugees and put all the money we save on housing them and making sure they're all ok into our NHS and Education Systems
You would be perfectly safe Dollie because you are British, and if you were of African or Indian origin you would still be perfectly safe.

The BNP argument is why should we take approx 250,000 immigrants per annum who from day one are entitled to free housing, free health care, and their children free schooling, which is costing this country billions.

When, incidentally, Blair is telling the British people that they shouldn't expect to retire at 65 years old they should be prepared to work until they are 70.

It gives me no pleasure to say this, but where immigration is concerned we need a political party to put a stop to this idiocy.

Thank you Ace and Don1 for your edifying contributions (what's an immagrant by the way?) Start thinking about the sort of world we want to live in. Britain is an immensly rich country, politically mature and, as far as I can tell, the best place in the world to live. Send us the poor, tired huddled masses. There is plenty of work for migrant workers and a real need for their contribution. There are too many unstable regimes where ordinary people live in fear. Bring them here.

The problem is not what the BNP would or would not do if they got into power, but the implicit message of encouragement it gives to all the racist halfwits to go around beating up, harassing and otherwise making lives a misery for the minorities in this country.

Apologies for the excessively long sentence.

If the BNP got to power there would be no problem with any person from any ethnic minority as long as that person was and remained a law abiding citizen. Illegal immigrants would be deported as would 'ethnic' criminals after their sentance. Any of the law abiding ethnics who wanted to return would be given the opportunity with financial packages to help them return (voluntary repatriation). Those who wish to remain as legal law abiding citizens would be allowed to do so.
