And the site for the Historic Harbour with info and links to the attractions if you can't live without it: http://www.flagship.org.uk/welcome.html
Titanic.
You're thinking of HMS Warrior, incidentally the first steel hulled ship, I believe, I know I can rely on someone to correct me if I'm wrong!

Hi loose - spot on:

'Bigger, faster and more heavily armed than any other warship afloat, Warrior was the world's first iron hulled armoured battleship. She was powered by steam as well as sail and constructed of wrought iron. Almost overnight, Warrior had made every other warship obsolete.' says the website for the Warrior...

HMS Warrior is one of the most fascinating ships I have ever visited. In fact I think it has the edge over Victory (sacrilege I know !!). Others have explained in greater detail but to me it was the great leap from wooden hull ships not only with armaments but mammoth improvement in crew accommodation, Royal Marine quarters, laundry facilities, engine room, coaling, sick bay etc. Never tire of visiting, always something new I missed on an earlier trip. Don't miss it.
I've been on the 'Warrior', well worth a visit, it was never used in action, and it was then, like a Nuclear deterrent, no other ship of its time could've sttod up to it.

wasnt BRUNELS S.S. GREAT BRITAIN the first steel hulled ship ?

hms warrior may have been the first steel hulled war ship, im not sure but think it was the Great Britain....
