It's not as nice as where I live,Betws-Y-Coed, North wales, and I am not having any arguments ,you lose,so leave it there.ok. and not I am not welsh i moved here from London 25 years ago,and I have been to many countries but I love with a big L where I live!!!!!
Homer55 i'm from Holmfirth!
Raysparx Betws-y-coed is gorgeous i have to agree! We still win tho....!!! ;o)
We are both very lucky caz,I also love yorkshire,it is a glorious county, have visited Holmfirth several times, got to admit If I didn't live where I did that area would do for me!!!
you need to get out some more.
I afraid I have not yet had the pleasure of visiting but certainly hope to someday. I find where I live in South Carolina USA to be the most perfect place on earth for me.
Why? where do you live chiswickk? or is the place in your name? I get out loads, all round the world but it is lovely living in a crime free area, where we don't have to be afraid of going out at night.

As us Yorkies know, we are never wrong. Mind you, as a Mirfielder, I must say that you do live the wrong side of the M62!

As Bill Bryson said, about his time living in Malhamdale, if you ever wish to know your shortcomings, there's not a more helpful people around than Yorkshire folk! Damned with faint praise methinks!

homer my Aunt and Uncle had a Bungalow on the Huddersfield road at Brighouse and my Uncles business was called Lumb and Cornish, it waqs a steel works just next to the M6 in the dip, on the industrial estate, I was born in Mytholmroyd up at cragg vale and it is superb up there.

Dot, don't sit on the fence!!! Which do you prefer, Lancashire or Yorkshire? Having experienced both!

I married a Yorkshireman (from Leeds) and I find his totally ****** regard of Yorkshire as being superior to everyone else teeth grindingly awful not to mention downright condescending.

If I hear one more time that Yorkshire is the biggest county (yeah but it has a dog the size of a rat named after it) or it should have it's own parliament I will stamp my feet and wipe my backside on a white rose.

So there!
Another foreigner successfully wound up Homer?

I amYorkshire, born and bred. There is grand scenery and the people are straight forward. You know where you stand with them. For you 'foreigners' take a look at www.yorksview.co.uk and you will see just some of the great places Click on to 'Trivia' and take a look at the 'posser man' and 'Yorkshire Pudding' amongst other things.

But I will tell of one of my experiences to show that we can take a joke too: I was in the lift of the Dom hotel in Cologne some years ago. Hearing English, of a sort, I saw there were two Americans. I spoke to them and one asked where I came from. "The best place in the World," I answered."Where's that Bud?", he asked. "Yorkshire" I said. Just then the lift doors opened and they got out. As they did so, he turned and asked: "Where else have you been Bud?" Now anyone other than a Yorkshireman would have been completely deflated at that point !

caz21, as you are a Holmfirth resident, have you read the Hazel Wheeler book "First of the Summer Wine," which is about the famous Bamforth Postcards, and about Marion Leake and Hannah Hinchcliffe (a Holmfirth weaver) who were both among the first models for the Postcards? Do you collect old postcards?

Hazel Wheeler's other books are about Huddersfield (in old photographs) and Huddersfield during the war, etc.and all are interesting. Just wondered if you had read any of them.
Best wishes.
bluemukka i could kiss you but i'm not that way inclined. i have NEVER been to yorkshire or lancashire but every person, male or female that i have ever come across from either area are soooo up their own ar$e$, i could scream also. northumberland is beautiful country tho but i think you can find beauty in any of our counties if you look hard enough... just shame about the locals hey!!! :)
