I hope I am posting this under the right section - can anyone help? If you are invited to the Queen's Garden party by the Lord Chamberlain and choose to accept is it not true that you can take the day off work to attend without having to take a days holiday from work? I've heard this is the case and want to check before I demand a days holiday back from my employer? ha ha

what a strange thought - i would be utterly amazed if that turned out to be true as i just cannot imagine any working time statute being drafted with that exception to the general rule... where did you hear this from?
My wife and I attended one at Holyrood House in Edinburgh last July. Wife was the one invited ! She still had to take a days leave. It was given with no problem cos I think all her work colleagues were so impressed.

If you are a Civil Servant and are invited because of, for example, your long service then you don't need to take a day out of your leave allowance. Technically it's because you are said to be representing the Department you work, for so it counts as a day at work. I'm guessing - and it's only a guess - that the same would apply to the armed forces and such as the police, fire brigade and so on. Otherwise I would think it depends on the individual employer - I doubt there's any legislation saying it's a right.

I have been 'commanded' by the lord chamberlain on the Queen's behalf to attend a garden party in june and DONT need to take the holiday for it -
Well on the invitation I received two years ago the Lord Chamberlain said he was commanded to invite me - it didn't say I was commanded to attend.

According to the web the dress code is either Morning Dress or Lounge Suit. The invite states Morning Coat. Those of you that have been, could you clarify what is acceptable please?
