Hiya boydsgirl.1919 On 28 November Nancy Astor (1879-1964) is elected MP for Plymouth South and becomes the first woman to take her seat in the House of Commons.
1918 Women in Britain vote in a General Election for the first time on 14 December. Constance Markiewicz (1868-1927) is elected as the first woman MP for Sinn Fein although she declined to take her seat .hope this helps.(:-)

And this is her memorable conversation with Winston Churchill:

Winston, if I you were my husband I should flavour your coffee with poison.

Madam, if I were your husband I should drink it.

I should have said that this was Lady Astor, not the other one that Vinny mentions.

Who was he speaking to Grunty,When a women MP...said, Sir your drunk, and he replied madam your ugly...but in the morning I shall be sober...???not sure if they are the correct words....anybody know??(:-)(i dont btw)

I think you'll find it was more than likely the same woman!

Thanks by the way guys!

Ps. Do you know if there is either a plant or flower related thing named after Nancy Astor?

That one is anecdotal vinny100, but I like to think it is true.

Bessie Braddock: Sir, you are drunk.
Churchill: And you, madam, are ugly. But in the morning I shall be sober.

If you mean the plant 'Aster' its named for its star shaped flowers (Aster = star in Latin)
