Me and my friend were talking about this when we were out last night. I had just got up quite early and put TV on about 8.30am to Tony Blair giving a speech, thought it was someone important like Mrs Thatcher, couldn't believe it when he said her name about 3 minutes into the speech. I rang my Mum and woke her up wioth the news straightaway!

Sorry Where were!!!!!
Adelaide,Australia,it was on the mid-day News Bulletin. The whole nation was stunned.
I should think most of the UK was in bed. I remember waking up, turning on my bedside radio (set to Capital at the time) and hearing this horrible morbid classical stuff. I tuned it off and went downstairs, turned on the TV, and whatever channel you tried was just the news of her dying.
I have a habit of sleeping with the TV on quietly in the background- and I awoke at some point during the night to the news flash that she's been involved in a "terrible car crash"....i remember sitting bolt upright in bed and watching with my mouth gaping. I then woke hubby up and told him- he wasn't impressed with me waking him in the middle of the night.
yes i think most of us were in bed, it was early morning when hubby brought me my coffee in bed and told me princess di had died, my first reaction was... what the hell are u talking about, i thought hed gone loopy, after a few mins it dawned on me he was'nt loosing it and she had died, what a sad day that was she was beautiful and a princess in every way, what a loss.
I was in Crete on holiday ..we were sitting in a taverna having a very late drink and it came on Sky news.Of course we couldn't understand Greek..but got the gist of it.
The next day we went on a trip to a beautiful church up in the mountains and the villagers were so nice and told us how sorry they were....we lit candles.
It's like remembering where you were when Kennedy was assassinated .I was in a club ...bopping to the Stones and Beatles !
like most people i awoke to the news. had a young child at the time, i got up and was doing her breakfast. i put the TV on, and there it was. i couldn't believe it. it took quite a few minutes for it to sink in, i was totally stunned.
when I woke up I was making breakfast and my MIL rang to ask something and she said have you heard the news (which we hadn't) and she told us, so I called my husband and we both sat watching the tv for most of the day
I fell asleep on the sofa whilst watching TV & breastfeeding my month old daughter. I woke up with a start as I had 'dreamed' that Princess Diana has died in a car crash, but of course I had that TV transference into my sleep & Dermot Monaghan was doing the news bulletin.

It was a horrible feeling, and about 20 minutes later Mr Pippa came downstairs asking me if I had heard the news ~ he had fallen asleep with the radio on & experienced the same 'dream sequence' as me. The whole day there was no radio service, just sombre music on the local stations.
My daughter and her parner were visiting for the weekend, so I got up early and made a coffee before anyone else was up and I saw it on TV. I had to wake everyone up then.
Like most Brits I was asleep when Diana died. I got a phone call at 6am from my Mum who told me to turn on the TV. I was stunned. I was 7 months pregnant at the time, already very emotional and it distressed me thinking of the shock and grief it must have caused her two boys. I was awestruck at the effect it had on the nation in the days leading up to her funeral.
I was on a motorbike, with a camera, speeding through an underpass in Paris.... why?
i had to meet sumone at the airport with my dad....i saw it about 5am....went and told him, and he said, no, shes only injured....she hasnt life threatening injuries......thats what the news had reported at 1am.....

the airport had the weirdest atmosphere.....will never forget that morning....horrible
I had been working nights and had driven the hour home with a tape on - I went straight to bed and was asleep in no time - then the phone rang and all I could get out of my best friend was she's dead she's dead I can't believe she's dead - this was about all I could get out of her for about 15 minutes - when I eventually woke up properly I thought it was a bizzare dream - unfortunately not though!
I was having a 'girly night in' with a couple of friends and a few bottles of plonk and we had the TV on, heard the news about the crash and soon sobered up! We stayed up most of the night listening to the bulletins, and could not believe it when they said she had died. We got a couple of hours sleep and got up to go home early the next morning, and everyone everywhere was walking round like zombies, stunned at the news.
I was in hospital after having given birth to my daughter on 30th August. I remember the nurse coming into the ward at 6am telling a group of mothers in the next room to me and suddenly everyone started buzzing round - nurses , midwives , mothers - to hear what had happened. A real mix of emotions that day. I felt sad for Diana's family - especially her children - but at the the same time I was elated at becoming a mother for the first time.

It's amazing to read your stories, God rest her soul.
Seeing as she the official time of death was about 4am Paris time, I suppose the vast majority of Brits were either in bed or at the local kebab van. I was one of the former. Personally, I wish she hadn't snuffed it, if only because we get her thrust upon us even more often now than when she was alive. And that's saying summat.
i had just got in from a club, was making a cup of tea and i put the news on, i rang my mum too and woke her up!!
I woke up and put the telly on and there was a documentary on Diana. I loved her so i was enjoying it. My hubby got up cause it was a Sun morning and he was playing football that morning. My young son came upstairs and said, mum, Diana and that man have died in a crash and we didn't believe him, then my husband came downstairs to make a drink and saw it on the TV downstairs. he came up and told me it was true at which point i was devastated. I might sound really sad, but to this day, i watch everything on her and still miss her presence on the TV and in the newspapers. She was a true princess and very much loved.
