well, would you wanna live near it!!!! It wouldnt be viable to put it in a residential estate for obvious reasons would it?
Because land in "The Middle Of Nowhere" tends to be cheap!

And you need a LOT of land to set up "a popular attraction such as Alton Towers".

i bet that question popped up when they built the castle 100's of years ago!!
Its not the middle of no-where - infact its quite near to the centre of the country, and as other poster said they are hardly going to put it in the middle of a housing estate are they.
In 1814 The Earl of Shrewsbury was sat there looking over his extensive grounds and had a vision!
He thought "one day all this will be log flumes and roller coasters but we are in the middle of nowhere and no one will be able to get here".
So he didnt bother building a theme park but his vision was passed down from generation to generation until the nice people at Alton Towers thought that they could perhaps transport the house and gardens to a more convenient location, close to major trunk roads and motorways, with a huge teleport device.
Whilst scientists worked on the teleport device they went ahead with the theme park anywa ybut it was so difficult to get to that no one bothered going and it went out of business years ago.

The Empire State Building is supposed to be a really popular tourist attraction but its really difficult for me to get there cos i live in Manchester.

Its only 'in the middle of nowhere' because its obviously not near to you regulators.
If you live in Alton its really handy!

If its 'in the middle of nowhere' how come nearly 3 million people a year manage to struggle across mountain passes and uninhabited wastelands to reach it?
lmao @ Gary

It adds to the excitement of getting there reg and then the long journey home gives you the chance to chat about the days events without boring the heads off of those who couldn't make it - for reasons unknown!
i am sure that gary baldy's answer is just a more cleverer way of saying mine!!! i knew i should of stayed on at school!!! :~))
If you look at a map Alton Towers is prety much slap bang in the middle of the UK mainland. Cant think of a better place.
