At the church my daughter is getting married in, you may have a non religious reading, but you also have to have some sort of religious reading also. The vicar will read that one. My question is. Does he have to read and agree to the non religious reading.
I believe its at the discretion of the Vicar, usually they will want to go thru it in the wedding rehersal incase its anything blasphemous or rude, or overly embarressing etc. We had a beauitful poem read at ours by my bestest friend which wasn't religious but just meaningful and brought tears to many an eye
My best friend read "Desiderata" at our wedding and I thought it fitted in very well to the ethos of our (not very religious) wedding.
We did however have a very modern/open/cool priest marry us so that probably helped.
