Police issues
8 Answers
Well, I did my first written tests for my police application yesterday ....and I passed!! Yippee! But now I have to go back again for an interview, medical and fitness test. Was just wondering what people's answers would be to the question 'what have been the main issues within the Met in the last year, how were the Met affected by them and what have they learnt by them.' Thanks!

"They haven't affected them at all"
"They have just learned to hide it better"
Shame Lennon you seemed like a nice person...well balanced and reasonable....ah well maybe you can try and pull the standards up from within.
Thanks for all the answers - and for congratulating me! Sft, I can assure you that I am a nice person and a couple of years ago I would never have dreamed about going into the Police and I understand your points that you make. But I wasn't made to be an office worker no matter how many different jobs I've had and I really want to do something where I can try to make a difference - as corny as that sounds. I promise if I get through I will do my best to change your views :) Thanks woodpam - would like to know what you come up with. The reason I asked this question is coz they will ask me something along the lines of this in the interview. Some things stand out for me, like the Victoria Climbe enquiry, but I was wondering what stood out for anyone else. Thanks again!
My first thoughts on this were guns and drugs, closely followed by the necessity to have a Police Service with a level of activity that people will accept and respect but will get the job done. Gilf made the suggestion to have a look at the MET web site and I'd agree, there's a lot on there about topics they have had conferences on which must be the issues they are prioritising I would think. I was also interested in the attempt they are making to get the opinions of young people - that's part of the governments "joined up thinking" approach to working with young people and is in line with all the other statutory agencies for young people, e.g. Connexions. Have a look at the crime statistics about the proportion of crimes committed by young people and you can see why they are very keen to engage a sample of this group and try and get their opinions, partly with a view to encouraging them to choose a crime-free lifestyle at an early age. I've got my fingers crossed for you!
Thank you so much for your answer woodpam, that was really helpful. I've been to the police station a few times now to speak to active officers as well and have been looking on all sites related to the Police. My interview isn't till July 1st, but thanks so much for everyone's answers! Hopefully, I'll get through! :)
