The Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital is the largest hospital in the world, occupying 173 acres, with 3200 beds and 6760 staff members. The hospital is in Soweto, South Africa - just outside Johannesburg.

Opened in 1941 by Field Marshall Jan Smuts as the Royal Imperial Hospital, Baragwanath, the facility was known as Baragwanath Hospital from 1948. The name Chris Hani was added in 1997 to honour a slain African National Congress and South African Communist Party member.

More than two thousand patients check into the hospital daily and nearly half of them are HIV positive.

Its just we drove past the newly extended Russells Hall hospital in Dudley the other day,and it looks huge.

The Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, England, is the largest hospital in the United Kingdom, and the largest teaching hospital in Europe. It was officially opened by the Queen on 28 July 1977, and admitted its first patient in 1978. It currently has more than 1300 beds and employs more than 6000 people.

Russell Hall Hospital I think peaked at about 900 beds, but this was reduced to 758 in 2001.
