This 'boar' thing is recent enough, and its introduction might be due to western society feeling uncomfortable, since the word 'pig' has been used here as a derogatory term for centuries.
To the Chinese, the pig is looked upon as meaning virility, fertility, and success in rearing large families. The boar is included in this, but adds war and battles to its character.
As in the past, I'll keep using 'pig', which covers both genders.
