Is the Alliance Francaise funded by the French state? If so, will schools outside France be banning the hijab? P.S. I've had this under News for a while and haven't had a bite.

Yes it is. It has nothing to do with French schools. It was founded in 1915 for the propagation of the French language abroad. It exists only for that purpose, the teaching of French language to foreigners. It follows that the French law concerning the hijab does not apply. There are French schools in England. The most notable is the one in Kensington. It is linked to the French educational system, in that it has to meet the French standards and requirements for teaching and syllabus; it prepares students for the 'bac.' examination. It also has a section teaching for the British national exams. However it is largely, if not entirely, financed by fees and seems to be regarded as a private, not a state, school.
