Dr. Awad Al-Badi, Director of Research, King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies: "There is absolutely no record or reference to Hopkins with or without his mustangs ever having set foot on Arabian soil. The idea of a historic long distance Arab horse race is pure nonsense and flies against all reason. Such an event in Arabiaany time in the past is impossible simply from a technical, logistical, cultural and geopolitical point of view. This race has never been part of our rich traditions and equestrian heritage."
Dr. Mohammed Talal Al-Rasheed, scholar in Arabic and English literature and history: The idea of such a race in Arabia is a non-starter and can be debunked simply from an intellectual point of view without even getting into the ludicrous logistics of it. It is a shabby fantasy.
wether or not Frank Hopkins was lying or if this story actually took place is irrelavant. There are millions of stories in america as well as on arabia soil, that state that these races actually took place, and may even today, however, contrary to the so called "scholars" these races are hightly confidential and are kept pretty quiet.
As far as Frank Hopkins winning such a race do you really think it would be to the Arabs best interest to talk about being beaten by an american cowboy and his mustang, let alone have any documentation on such an event, that would go against there beloved royal standards. So the question I believe is inside your self. You can believe that this man and great horse really did these things or you can believe the so called "scholars and skeptics" who by the way make me want to vomit because they always find a way to ruin a perfectly good thing. In the words of poison, "Give me something to beleive in". and then leave it the hell alone.
whether true or un-....Hidalgo is an amazing story....There may not be a lick of truth to this legend, but as a person who not only loves the rise of an under dog, but also wants to believe that such "Characters" in our history not only lived, but truly thrived in all their glory, you'll have to forgive me if I discredit all claims otherwise as nothing more than pure HOGWASH.
