christening gifts

ive been asked to be a godmother for my nephew and am wondering if i have to buy a special christening gift if so any suggestions.

I had stars named after my nephew and my niece, (which they probably don't appreciate yet!) but it's something that lasts forever. The website is starregistry.com and gives you all the info. It comes with a lovely certificate and a "map" of where the star is in the sky. You can chose the constellation (my n&n are in Australia so their stars are in the southern sky)and you can decide what the star is to be called (ie name, date of birth etc).

Forgot to mention that yes, it is an honour to be asked to be godmother to any child. It is not about buying presents every birthday and Christmas, but about being there for the child, in good times and bad and when the child is older, and hopefully you will have kept in contact with them, you can assure them that if they want to talk to you about things that maybe they can't talk to their folks about, that they can talk to you. It's important that you be there for them and always keep your promises! Enjoy and take joy in his life, knowing that you in some way can help him along his way in this world.

I also forgot to mention that when he is about 5 or so, you will get asked all kinds of interesting questions - my nephew (who says he is going to marry me when he grows up which is the best offer I've had all year!) asks me such questions as, why do we die, what noise do ladybirds make, what is gravity. Most godparents will buy a bible for the child. I know my daughter received a number of bibles, so it might be worth having a chat with the other godparents to make sure you dont all give the same but I think its a good idea that at least one of you buy a bible. I know that there are some lovely childrens ones which makes easier reading and understanding.
