After the 9/11 tragedy the Rev. Ian Paisley made a very moving statement. I recall at the time, the Times mentioning that it was perhaps the best statement made. can anyone remember what was said.

Quoted in the  Irish News
September 14, 2001

"The rulers of the western democracies must learn a lesson: that criminal terrorism cannot be dialogued with, for indeed, it is the lie incarnate, " Mr Paisley said.

"Concessions have turned the monster into a greater monster which now rages the whole world and comes forward to torment us all. A new and terrible dimension has been added to the terrors of our unknown tomorrows.

"There was reference today to Omagh. The tragedy of Omagh is that the powers and authority of this land didn't get one person to the bar of justice. Now the victims themselves have to gather up the money to get the case to court.

"A great tragedy is that through concessions, terrorism has been made respectable, and through concession, terrorism has decided that it can take on the world and wring more and more concessions.

"Today, I would like to express, on behalf of the people I represent, our sympathy, the brokenness of our own hearts - because we too have passed this way."
