This is going to be boring to some and even freak out the younger members. I thought it might be a cool idea to ask members to add a couple "in my days' extracts - only as you remember them, not from what you've heard.
1. I wasn't allowed to sit on the couch/sofa until I was 12 years old.
2. My parent didn't have a car when i was going to school, I had to walk.
3. 78rpm vinyl record.
4. My first car was 25 years old and only had those flipout indicators that didn't work so i had to use my hand to signal.
5. I had to come inside when the streetlights went on, until I was 16.
1 I remeember my gran having a meat safe instead of a fridge
2 used to pop tar bubbles
3 wore liberty bodice
4 had an outside loo
5 walked on Trinity sunday holding the ribbons on the banner
When they repaired the old cobbled streets they would put tar in between and if the summer was hot enought the tar would melt enough to bubble. We would get sticks and pop them and woe betide you if you got it on your socks and legs, remember being stood in the kitchen sink and having legs scrubbed with Ajax powder LOL
ummmmm my Dad was apostie and when he left the walks and got a van I would go to work with him in the school hols even though it was disallowed, if he say another van coming I had to hide, they had engine covers inside the cab so wa warm in winter, gosh happy memeories.
trt - No couch, only a couple of chairs? Sheer luxury! We had two orange boxes. As to heating, we had no fire, but my father, being a kindly man, after coming back from the pub, would beat us with his leather belt as hard as he could so that we could go to bed warm.
1. Carried water in a gallon bucket on my head from the Ganges to our hut 4h walk when I was 5y in bare feet.
2. Had to clean & wash the hut, and empty the septic tank at 5am.
3. Had to cook all meals for 6 daily while parents worked.
4. Nursed ailing incontinent g'parents who were also blind
5. Never went to school but entered uni at 16y.
6. Was betrothed at 9y & wed at 22y
7. Did all above again for 8 in-laws & my 5; still at it but with shoes :)
