Where has this trend come from - where, in answer to a question - people start their sentence / answer , with the word ' so ......'

You hear it a lot on tv and radio

I blame the TV and radio.
I do that alot - nooo idea why! X
So do I.
Well - I think that some people type in the same language that they speak. Others try and improve on their spoken English when they type.

I have to admit to being half asleep and it is possible that the above is in Klingon.
I know what you mean, it actually sounds a little patronising when the interviewer has asked an invited 'expert' in the studio to explain some scientific or political situation, they start off with 'So...what we have here....' or 'So..let me put it in simple terms....' and always seem to be instantly excoted that they are going to pour out their unrivalled knowledge to the ignorant masses.

I have just noticed that you are not referring to AB posts but in the media.

Ignore anything I may have said - I think that a little nap is in order.
AHHHH your post makes sense now then wolf lol
Good Dotty because my eyes won't stay open. Catfights?
How dare you suggest I'm a Klingon, Wolf !! ;-)
yes ive seen it a lot on here...whilst im not really arsed , it does vaguely irk me...

sounds like a teenager
If it continues with "So what you're saying is ..." that means the speaker is going to totally misunderstand your last statement, and supposdely repeat it back to you using other words, when in fact it will be the opposite of what you have just said.

Similarly, just saying "So ..." is a shortened version of the above - cutting straight to the misnunderstanding.

It's the hallmark of people who don't listen, or having listened, have failed to assimilate the information they have just heard becuase they are waiting to disagree.
