If the universe was finite, would you believe in a creator?

Imagine that the universe consisted of just our galaxy for example. It would give us enough interest to explore it knowing there was nothing else to find out about. If this was the case, would you find it easier to believe in an actual creator of said universe, rather than having to believe in a supposed creator of a universe which is, in effect constantly being created?

Yes Trim. I mean if there was basically a distinct bubble in which we all existed, with nothingness outside of it. Hard to imagine nothingness though, does it even exist?

I belong to a group which believes that there has been more than one 'big bang' to explain the beginning of the universe. One idiot amongst us declares that there has been a trillion 'big bangs'. The rest of us know that there were a lot more.

I know that without contraction there would be no expansion.

The universe is finite. It's expanding constantly which means that its edge is constantly getting further and further away, but it still has one...

I thought the same thing starbuck. On the scale of things planet Earth is almost invisible in the galaxy. I did wonder why a creator bothered to populate the Earth when all other planets around us seem to be barren. On the other hand (maybe a flight of fancy) could there be other dimensions.

Harry, you say without contraction there can be no expansion. Please elaborate. I would agree there can be no contraction without expansion, but there can be expansion without contraction, I think.

flobadob - Think of zero (an assumption of conditions prior to existence). There is no way it could expand or contract but it expanded - hence us). The tenuous logic is that it chose not to contract, ergo no contraction, without which there would be no expansion.

This universe is finite. To be otherwise then at some point it would have needed to expand at an infinite rate. I'm unsure what effect the size of the universe is expected to have on whether one believed in a creator or not.

It can't have an edge as that implies something beyond the edge, which opens up a whole new 'can of worms' to account for. To me this implies that space has to curve, no matter how slightly, so that there is no end but a finite space.
